Ora: Demos (200x) (Unreleased) (Teddy Riley)

First brought to mention to in my hidden R&B groups of the 90s and 2000s, Ora were an all-Filipina R&B quartet from Toronto, Canada who were active briefly in the late 90s. They released one EP N V So whose only single Quit Stressin' achieved some degree of success in Toronto but sadly their label folded before they could release anything else. They recorded a full album which was at the time tentatively titled Ora...Mismo Right Here, Right Now and due in part to one of the talented ladies Rie in this group, I was able to post to
this blog back at the beginning of the year. It was truly a lost gem. The Filipino invasion of the R&B world started out strong with the bay-area groups Pinay and Premiere in the mid 90s but sadly towards the end of the decade began to decline in quality slightly with pop groups such as One Vo1ce. Fortunately this was not the case with Ora. While their Southern counterparts were churning out music that had more in common with the worst of J-Pop, the above quartet were more than equipt to take on the big major label groups such as Destiny's Child. One person who thought so was Madelyn Nelson, who at the time was manager to Teddy Riley. She flew the group out to Virginia in the hope of furthering their career under his direction but sadly once again nothing ever went past the demo stage and the group continued to remain unsigned. According to one member, they had a falling out with their management which resulted in all ties with Riley being 'severed.' However with the kind permission of Rie from the group, I am pleased to present some of these lost songs to the world which should've established this group as a force to be reckoned with. Check the New Jack Swing flavors on track 1!

Following this, the group still continued to record and worked on many songs with Toronto-area producer Khari Dandy and August Rigo. Track 9 from this set was later recorded by American pop group Girlicious.

Many thanks once again to my good friend Stuaaart and of course to Rie for allowing me to post.
