Athena Cage: The Art Of A Woman (Advance) (Pure Entertainment/Priority Records, 2001)

Further shelved music from Athena Cage who, along with Lavonn Battle and Tabitha Duncan, formed the R&B trio Kut Klose in the mid-90s. The trio, who were discovered and executive-produced by Keith Sweat, released three singles between 1994-1995 and were mostly known for appearing on Sweat's 1996 hit Twisted which made number 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Sadly their time on the music scene was
short-lived to say the least but Cage was encouraged to go it alone and by the end of the decade had signed a solo deal with Tim Kelley & Bob Robinson's Pure Entertainment label. She released two singles, the Save The Last Dance soundtrack cut All Or Nothing and the very DC-ish Hey Hey but her solo album The Art Of A Woman was to never see the light of day despite being as good - if not better - than a lot of other stuff being released at the time. Nothing at all like smooth R&B music she was mostly known for with her former Kut Klose colleagues, it is mainly a mixture of DC & J-Lo-esque dance-pop and sultry slow jams layered with soft Janet Jackson-type harmonies. Mostly produced by Tim Kelley & Bob Robinson with the exception of track 1 (All I Need Is Me), which was produced by Rodney Jerkins, and track 2 (Hey Hey), which was produced by Steve Rhythm...
